Our Community

In this community of Storm Lake, we are making a difference in the lives of people.

  • St. Mark is home to an office of Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI), a social ministry organization of the ELCA, to deliver services to families in crisis. LSI serves people of all ages, genders, nationalities, religions, ethnicities, and sexual orientations. Specifically, the Storm Lake office, housed at St. Mark, provides Therapy and Behavioral Health Intervention Services, Foster Care, and Adoption Services. LSI has licensed therapists on site, and LSI staff recruit, train, license, and support foster and adoptive families in Buena Vista and surrounding counties. Through these services and even more statewide, LSI responds to the love of Jesus Christ through compassionate service. Do you know someone who could benefit from LSI’s services? Call 712.291.1066 or visit their website.

  • We at St Mark support the work of the Upper Des Moines Opportunity. UDMO's purpose is "dedicated to helping build stronger communities by addressing the effects of poverty on individuals and families." We gather food for the food shelf every week at St Mark and support their other opportunities as much as we can when presented with their needs.

Focusing on the underserved and underrepresented, they support physical, mental, and social well-being within the community by initiating and collaborating with other organizations, programs, and events. One of those programs, Friends with Food, helps to combat hunger issues within our community. This monthly food distribution takes place here at St Mark.
